Birchbox Review February 2013 - Jouer, Lancome, Tiji and Juicy Couture

This month's Birchbox has a Red Carpet theme that seemed popular with my beauty subscriptions this month.
Along with the typical card that describes what is in my box for the month, I got a card with "secret weapon" product recommendations. The back of the card describes some of the tutorials available on the Birchbox.com this month like how to wear Pantone's color of the year, how to get big volume in your hair and Red Carpet inspired manis.
Jouer Matte Moisture Tint
1.7 oz. $38.00 - sample size 0.07 oz.

First of all, this product comes in 5 shades and I was sent Hazel... the darkest shade.  Why did I fill out a profile?  I tried it out anyway on a day when I didn't have to leave the house.  Aside from it being way too dark for me, I still really did not like it.  I have normal to dry skin and the matte finish really did not work well with my skin.  It made my skin look super dry and patchy.  I had to take it off immediately.  It is also quite thick and heavy for a tinted moisturizer, but that does make it give pretty decent coverage.  It might work better for oily skin types, but I would warn those with even slightly dry skin to skip this one.

Lancome LA BASE PRO
0.8 oz. $42 - sample size 0.23 oz.
Oooo I didn't want to love this, but I do!  My favorite primer is the original Smashbox Photo Finish primer, but it can feel a little bit oily.  This primer performs the same as my Smashbox primer, but without that oily feel.  It is definitely a bit more of a splurge at $42, but a little goes a long way so I think it will last me a while.  It must have been popular, because it sold out on Birchbox.com so I may just have to check it out next time I pass a Lancome counter.  I was also really happy with the size of the sample!  It is just about 1/4 of the full size. Nice job birchbox :)

Tiji Catwalk Your Highness Firm Hold Hairspray
9 oz. $20.95 - sample size 2.3 oz.
I do not usually get too excited about hair products, but I loved this one!  Just a few sprays gives a strong, but touchable hold.  If you overdo it, it will get hard and crunchy feeling.  It does give a little bit of volume and it helps to tame frizziness. The best part is the scent.  It does not have the typical, gag inducing hairspray smell.  It has floral botanicals to nourish your hair and that gives it a very light floral scent. I do not use a lot of hairspray so this generous sample size will last a while for me, but I am definitely going to get the full size when I run out.

Juicy Couture Couture La La
3.4 oz. $90 - sample size 0.05 oz.
Yup, another perfume vial sample.  I will skip over the rant about that and get right to the fragrance.  Now I typically don't really care for Juicy Couture fragrances. Gasp, I know.  I usually find them too sweet or too young, just too something not for me.  With that said, I do like this one.  To me, the overwhelming note is Lily of the Valley and I do get a hint of green apple as well.  I think it creates a nice balance.  I find it to be more mature than the other Juicy Couture fragrances, but still youthful.  The bottle and packaging is great, but Juicy Couture always does that well.  While I do like it, it is not a favorite for me.  If I received it as a gift, I would use it and enjoy it, but there are other fragrances I like more for $90.  Would anyone be interested in a favorite perfume's post? Like a top 5 or a whole collection?  If so, let me know :)  I think it might be fun.

Ghirardelli Milk & Caramel Squares
I loved this little extra this month.  These are some of my favorite candies, so I thought this was a nice treat.

It is almost time for my March Birchbox to arrive and I am very excited to see what I have to try out!
