Alphabet Challenge: Z is for Zesty Citrus by LA Girl - Swatches and Review

I want to thank Gosia from Life In Color! for starting this Alphabet Challenge! It was so much fun!  I am sad to see it end, but really happy to go out with a bang! I love the way this mani turned out!
For the letter Z I decided to layer 1 coat of L.A. Girl's Zesty Citrus over 1 coat of my Y polish, Yoga-ta Get This Blue by OPI and then 1 coat of Out the Door top coat.
Blue + Yellow = Green so I saw that coming, but the way all of those little tiny flakies were glowing totally blew me away!  It was a real stunner in person.
Zesty Citrus is part of L.A. Girl's Fruity line which consists of scented, sheer colors with tiny flakies or glass flecks... I really can't decide how to classify them, but I love them! Zesty Citrus smells just like the name suggests and it was noticeable, but not so strong smelling that it bothered me.  I would prefer them uncented, but I love, love, love the finish!  I have really been having an L.A. Girl love affair the past few weeks!

I bought mine for $2.50 at Rite Aid, but you can also find them on CherryCulture.com.
I should have painted Zesty Citrus closer to my cuticle because you can see a blue halo in the photos, but it wasn't really noticeable in person.  What was noticeable was the way my tips got kinda frosty looking after I used 1 coat of Out the Door top coat! Grrr! Has that happened to anyone before?  My bottle is a bit more that halfway gone and it has thickened up a bit... maybe it needs some thinner?

What do you think of this combo?
I love it, but is it pretty or is it one of those ugly/pretty colors?
I can't decide, but I do love it and I will definitely use this combo again :)

Review: August 2012 Glambag from MyGlam.com with swatches of Circus Polish Ringmaster by Andrea's Choice!

This month the theme for the Glam Bag was Endless Summer.  I don't really see the connection between the theme and all of the products included this month, but I loved the products this month!
Demeter Roll on Perfume Oil in Clean Skin - .29 fl.oz. Full Size $10 at demeterfragrance.com
Demeter's description of the scent - Clean Skin is a blend of orange, lemon, white rose, bergamot peach and vanilla, making the perfect shower-fresh scent.
I like this scent.  It is very clean smelling. The fragrance doesn't last long on my skin so I do like that it is in a roll on so I can keep it in my purse and reapply throughout the day.  I am interested in trying other scents.  Maybe the scents that are not this soft and subtle last longer? There is a coupon included for 10% off at demeterfragrance.com, but I feel like I have seen these products cheaper in the drugstore, though I could be wrong.

Eclos Cellular Activator Facial Serum - .5 fl.oz. - Full Size 1.7 fl.oz $24.99 at freemanbeauty.com
I really like this serum!  It sinks right into my skin and does not feel sticky on my skin at all.  It uses apple stem cells to reduce wrinkles and improve the skin's texture.  It also has antioxidants like green tea and tumeric. Best of all, it does not contain parabens, sulphates, synthetic fragrance or dyes, mineral oil or petroleum.  The price is really good, too.  I think I am going to try out the full size.

Eclos Moisture Therapy Regenerative Cream - .25 fl.oz. - Full size 2oz. $24.99 at freemanbeauty.com
This cream also uses apple stem cells, like the serum above.  I often switch up my skin care products, but I like using products from the same line when I can.  I feel like I get better results because they are designed to work together.  I have only used the cream a few times, but I like it.  It does not feel heavy, but it does feel really moisturizing.  My skin starts to get dry in the Fall and Winter and I think this is going to work really well for me. There also is a coupon included for $10 off from eclos that I plan to use for the full size versions of these 2 products.
S.A.L.T.Y. Cosmetics Eye Shadow in Glama-ZOID! - 1gram - Full Size 1.25 gram for $4.50 at saltycosmetics.com
This shadow doesn't look very impressive in the jar, but it is beautiful on!  As you can see in the swatch, it is a very reflective light pink.  It is beautiful as an inner corner highlight.  I am excited to try it layered over other shadows, too. There was a coupon included for 20% off at saltycosmetics.com.

Circus Nail Polish by Andrea's Choice in Ringmaster - .45 fl.oz. Not yet for sale on circusbyandrea.com price unknown
This polish is a beautiful neon pink.  It does have a semi matte finish that most neons have.  I just did a quick swatch for you guys, but when I wear it as a full mani I think I will use a top coat.  I like it glossy :)  I used 3 quick coats for the photos above.  I really liked seeing another polish this month. Glam Bag is really stepping up their game!

Last, but not least is the Glam Gloss made just for MyGlam!  What a great extra surprise this month!
It is a really pretty, creamy pink gloss. It feels creamy, too. It is a little bit sticky, but not too sticky. And, it smells like watermelon! I really like this gloss! I would love to see more my glam cosmetic items in the future!
I appreciate the made on/expires on dates on the lipgloss box! I am always forgetting when I got something so I find this really helpful.

Another great month for my Glam Bag from MyGlam.com!  It really seems like they have been stepping up their game the past couple months.

Alphabet Challenge: Y is for Yoga-ta Get This Blue by OPI - Swatches and Review

I can't believe we are already up to letter Y in the Alphabet Challenge! Today I am wearing Yoga-ta Get This Blue by OPI. And I totally agree! Yoga-ta get it! It is a really deep cobalt blue with a beautiful shimmer.
I just used 1 coat of Yoga-ta Get This Blue and 1 coat of Out the Door top coat.  I love a 1 coat polish! The formula was great too! Thin and easy to control, but really pigmented.
This photo was taken with flash and you can really see the shimmer here!
I usually don't think that blue is my color, but I think this one is just dark enough that I like it on me.  It is dark, but still bright if that makes any sense :)
Yoga-ta Get This Blue was first released in the Spring 2008 India Collection.  It has been added to the core line so you can easily get your pretty little hands on this color if you want to.

Do you like blue polishes?
What is your favorite blue?

American Beauty Julep Maven Box August 2012 - Dakota and Stefani Swatches

I chose the American Beauty Julep Maven Box this month, again.  This is Julep Maven's 1st birthday so there was a special message printed on the inside of the box and a free tote, too.
This is everything included.  This should give you an idea of the tote's size.  Not quite grocery bag size, but a nice little re-useable shopping bag.  I will use it, but I would get more use out of it if it were a bit bigger.
I am most excited to try out this polish remover!  It has a pump style cap that seems really handy.  I am almost out of polish remover so this was perfect.  I don't know yet if the remover is worth the $14 price tag ($11.20 for Mavens) But, even if it is not, I do plan on reusing this bottle.
 Julep describes the colors as...
Stefani - gold flecked, gray metallic
Dakota - rose gold metallic chrome
The description for Stefani is pretty spot on, but I consider Dakota a coppery bronze.  What do you think? rose gold?
Here are some quick swatches.  2 coats each with 1 coat of Out the Door top coat.  I really like them both.  I was worried about brushstrokes with this sort of finish, but I didn't have any problems with them at all!  I can't wait to wear them as full manicures! Very pretty colors for Fall.

Are you a Julep Maven? What did you get this month?

Right now you can become a Julep Maven and get your first box for only a penny! Nail poish for 1¢? Yes, please! Just Click Here and enter COLORS4ONE at checkout.
The links included are my referral links.  When you sign up you get one, too and you can earn credits toward free maven boxes!

Alphabet Challenge: X is for... Seriously, what is X for?

I could not come up with a polish that started with the letter X! So I am taking the easy way out and using my only Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear polish called In the Spotlight.  Hey, it is bar glitter so it even made a few x marks on my nails.  I get bonus points for that, right? :)
indoor - flash
I used 2 coats of Wet N Wild On A Trip without top coat.  Then I added one coat of In the Spotlight to my accent nails.
If you have ever seen On A Trip, then you know that the above photo is the color accurate photo.  But, I just had to include the other two.

outdoor - shade
The color is way too blue here, but you can see the holo glitter!

outdoor - shade
And I just thought this one looked cool :)

So what do you think of bar glitter? I kinda like this one.

Review: Birchbox August 2012

Here is the whole haul! This month's Birchbox has a 'Beauty School" Theme.
Let's start with this month's "extra" which seems to be a new thing that Birchbox is calling "Birchbox finds" rather than the "lifestyle extras" that have been included in the boxes from previous months.
Schick: Hydro Silk Razor - $9.99 with a $4 off coupon for the refill blades
I have yet to try out this razor, but I could always use one so this was a nice addition to this month's box.  I think the added coupon for the refill was very nice, too. I'm sure I will use it.  I do like the idea of the "extras" in the monthly boxes being drugstore products, if that is what Birchbox plans on doing here. I'm not really too sure what this "Birchbox Finds" thing is all about.
DDF: Brightening Cleanser - 60ml - Full Size 250ml $38 (sample value $9.11)
I have only used this once, so I will give you the full low down in a future Bye Bye Loves post :)  My first impression is a good one, though!  It did have a strong floral fragrance, but it was pleasant so  the strong scent didn't bother me.  The cleanser was very gentle feeling and did a great job removing all my makeup.  The bottle states that it evens skin tone and smooths the skin's texture.  After washing, my face felt soft, smooth and clean, but I did not notice a more even skin tone with the first use.  I do really like this cleanser, though and I will let you know if I see more benefits with prolonged use.
Beauty Fixation: Makeup Remover - 3 swabs - Full Size 24 Swabs $5 (Sample Value $0.63)
3 swabs? Really? Really? Okay, this is where the box starts to go off track for me.  I feel like the rest of the products included this month are NOT deluxe samples.  I was really disappointed in the sample sizes this month, but I will rant about that at the end :) The swabs were fine.  Easy to use, removed makeup.  I'm sure they would be great for traveling, but I don't travel that much so I don't really have much use for a product like this.  I may pick them up for a trip, but most days I can put in *all that effort* and dip my q-tip into my eye makeup remover by myself.  You should check out Pink Sith's Birchbox post.  She has one of my favorite blogs, so that is reason enough to check her out, right? This month, she got the Beauty Fixation pre-tweeze treatment, and in a full size. Beauty Fixation also makes cuticle oil in this swab form, too.  Those would be handy for my purse!
Viva La Juicy La Fleur Eau de Toilette Spray - .05 fl.oz. - Full Size 2.5 fl.oz $70 (Sample Value $1.40)
I am not a fan of these sample perfume vials in my month beauty boxes.  I do love trying new fragrances, but I would consider a "deluxe sample" a mini bottle, not these sample cards that you get for free everywhere.  That said, I wasn't a big fan of this fragrance either.  It has a strong mandarin note and I would say it is more fruity than floral.  I'm not usually a fan of fruity perfumes, but if you are, this may be for you.
Comodynes: Hydra Tanning Face Moisturizing Summer Glow -2 sample packets .1 fl.oz. each - Full Size 1.35 fl.oz. $20.98 (sample value $3.11)
Well, these actually say "Free Sample" right on them, lol.  I liked the cream itself.  It was very moisturizing and it didn't really have a scent, which was nice.  But, I didn't see much of a tan with 2 applications.  Gradual tanners are the most natural looking, in my experience, but I am reluctant to splurge on this since I don't feel like I really got to try it out :/
Comodynes: Self Tanning Towelettes - 2 sample packets 1 towelette each - Full Size 8 towelettes $13.99 (sample value $3.50)
These are also printed with "Free Sample" on the back.  I am glad I got 2 in my Birchbox, because I needed 2 for 1 full body application.   I started with my legs and the towel was dry by the time I finished my legs.  I used the other towelette for my upper body.  The package says that you will see results in 3 hours.  It was closer to 5 hours before I saw results, but it did give me a natural looking tan.  It was not a very drastic change, which was good.  I prefer a buildable self tanner. My only advice with these would be to moisturize any dry areas really well before using this.  I did have a few orangey patches around my ankles where I had some dry spots.  I may pick these up in the Spring, but I don't really feel the need to tan now as we are headed into Fall.  I did find the inclusion of these 2 tanning products in this month's box odd.

I was fairly underwhelmed with the August Birchbox.  The DDF cleanser was the only thing I really consider a deluxe sample.  The size of all of the other sample was really disappointing.  Next month has to be better.  I normally love my Birchbox!

Do you subscribe to Birchbox? What did you get this month?

Alphabet Challenge: W is for Wet Cement by Wet N Wild - Swatches and Review

Seriously, W already!  This Alphabet Challenge is flying by and I want to thank Gosia from Life in Color! for putting together such a fun and easy challenge! And, I wanted to say that before we get to the letter X! lol
with flash
Wet Cement applied flawlessly with 2 coats.  It had a glossy finish, but I was in a hurry as usual so I added 1 coat of Out the Door top coat to speed up the dry time.
These 2 photos were taken in natural light and are much more color accurate than the first photo.
I adore colors like this! It is a beautiful murky, browned gray with a drop of lavender.  It is my favorite sort of color to wear for fall.
It always takes me a minute to get used to the wide brush in the Wet N Wild Megalast polishes, but I do like them.  The formula was smooth and easy to apply.  This may replace OPI's You Don't Know Jaques as my go to greige polish for fall!

Do you have any colors like this?
What is your go to fall color?

Alphabet Challenge: V is for Vinyl Record by LA Girl from the Disco Brite Collection - Swatches and Review

My love for LA Girl polish continues today with the letter V in the Alphabet Challenge.  Today I am wearing Vinyl Record, another beauty in the Disco Brites Collection.
Vinyl Record applied perfectly in 2 coats.  It also dried super quickly so all photos are without top coat.
Vinyl Record is a really pretty turquoise blue with a gorgeous, smooth, shiny finish.
I got this polish for $2.50 at Rite Aid, but you can also find it at CherryCulture.com for about the same price when they are on sale, which seems to be quite often.

What do you think of this color?
Have you tried LA Girl? I have been loving their polishes!

Alphabet Challenge: U is for Under the Boardwalk by China Glaze - Swatches and Review

I only had a few polish choices for the letter U in the Alphabet Challenge and you all know how much I love the China Glaze Summer Neon Collection so I decided to use Under the Boardwalk today :)  There are just 2 jellies in this collection and I just showed you the other one, Ride the Waves, for the letter R.
Sorry I guess I was a little messy! Let's just ignore that :)
This is 3 coats of Under the Boardwalk with 1 coat of Out the Door top coat.
Fuchsia is always the hardest color for me to photograph because is looks so different in different lighting. Remember the Jelly Sandwich I made using Julep Lily ? I think Under the Boardwalk is very similar. Might be a dupe.  I will have to do a comparison.
In the shade it looks very raspberry.
And now in the sun, it wants to be bright pink!

Still, not a neon, though.  I think the jellies were the odd men out in this "neon" collection.  Not that I'm complaining! I love me some jellies :)

I wanted to make another jelly sandwich, but ran short on time!  Maybe later!

July Bye Bye Loves: Face Products

In an attempt to keep this short and sweet, I am going to link to my reviews in previous posts if I have already babbled on and on about one of these products already :) Ready? Let's see what face products I used up this month!
E.L.F. Makeup Remover Cleansing Cloths - 20 cloths for $3, is a great price so when I saw them at Target I had to buy them :)  I'm on a bit of a quest for the perfect makeup removing towelette.  I don't quite think that these are my holy grail of makeup wipes, but they are close.  They are really moist and I really like the formula. They remove all of my makeup and leave my skin feeling clean with no residue like other towelettes leave behind.   They also don't really have too much of a scent, which I like.  The only negative thing I have to say about them is that the cloth itself is thin and smooth and I prefer a textured cloth.  While my search for my holy grail towelette continues, I will definitely repurchase these.
Weleda Pomegranate Firming Day Cream - Reviewed in my April Birchbox Post
Caudalie Premier Cru Eye Cream - Reviewed in my June Sample Society Post
Benta Berry G-1 Exfoliating Facial CleanserReviewed in my April Birchbox Post
I didn't buy the full size of any of the above items, but I keep thinking about the Benta Berry Exfoliating Cleanser.  I will probably give in and buy the full size soon :)

Dr. Jart Water Fuse BB Cream - Reviewed in my May Birchbox Post
Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint in Bronze - Reviewed in my June Birchbox Post
Sephora SPF 20 Tinted Moisturizer - Reviewed in my May Favorites Post I got this sample with one of my Sephora.com orders.  It is the only one of the above 3 that I like enough to buy the full size.  You can click the link for my full review, but in a nutshell... It is light weight, but also is only light coverage so I have been enjoying it this Summer when I can't stand heavy makeup on my face.  I do prefer more coverage, so I will switch it up when the weather cools down.
EOS Lip Balm in Medicated Tangerine - So that is what the bottom of one of these looks like! lol You get a lot of product in there so this lasted me a while.  I kept it on my nightstand and would religiously apply it before bed.  It is very moisturizing and feels soft on my lips, not waxy at all.  I also didn't find it to be "medicated" smelling or tasting.  It just smelled fruity like tangerines :)  I have a couple of the other EOS flavors? scents? to try out, but I would buy this one again, too. Oh, and it is Petroleum, Paraben, Phthalate, and Gluten Free, is not tested on animals, and does contain Antioxidents, Vitamins C&E, Zinc and Shea Butter, so it is good stuff :)
Buxom Lash Mascara in Black - Reviewed in my May Favorites Post
Here is a bonus shot of he wand. Very nice.  I will definitely be buying this one again.  I don't really have a favorite mascara, but this is top 3 for sure!

So there are all of my July empties and August is halfway over :/  Sorry I got this up so late.

What have you used up this month?
Have you tried any of these products?

Feel free to leave your links to your "empties" posts below if you have one :) I love seeing what people use up!  Haha, I'm a weirdo, I know :)

Alphabet Challenge: T is for Turntable by LA Girl from the Disco Brites Collection - Swatches and Review

I have been quite impressed with the few L.A. Girl polishes that I have tried, so I thought I would break this one out of my untrieds for the Alphabet Challenge.

This is 2 coats of Turntable from the Disco Brites Collection.  I added 1 coat of Out the Door top coat because I couldn't wait for it to dry, but it was quite shiny without it.
I would call this teal, but it is a very green teal.
I really like this color and the formula was great.  Not too thin, not too thick just perfect in two coats.  I will definitely be checking out more polishes from L.A. Girl!

What do you think of this polish?
I think it is funny that I never would have bought this color 2 years ago.  I am getting adventurous in my old age, lol!

Do you have a favorite L.A. Girl polish I should check out?

Corny Nail Art

I got so many comments on my Somersault Circus polish!  Some said bright, some said cheerful, one said sunflowers and another said Sweet Corn!  Before I removed my bright, cheerful mani I decided to play around with some nail art.  Keep in mind, this is my first attempt dotting and my first time using a striping brush!  I can only improve from here, right? :)

I started dotting using OPI Funny Bunny, a sheer white.  Then I used Sinful Colors Jungle, a nail art polish with a thin, striping style brush to go around the edges for the corn husk.  I did not add a top coat because I liked the texture of the corn kernels.

It is different, fun and Summery :)
Not, too terrible for my first try?
