Jelly Sandwich: Julep Lily and a nameless Franken from Lynn at Oh So Lacquered

I got my very first franken from Lynn at Oh So Lacquered during her blog sale in May.  She has an amazing blog and you should totally check it out if you don't already follow her.  She told me that this polish was her very first attempt at frankening!  It is beautiful!  I have been really interested in the idea of frankening, but I have yet to try my hand at it.  I have started collecting some supplies, though so I hope to create my very first franken of my own soon.  But, if you follow me, you have heard that before :)

Anyway, on to the jelly sandwich!
Here you can see the damage I did to Julep Lily with this one mani! I love layering, but it sure eats through a bottle of polish quickly!
Just look at Lynn's beautiful franken!  What should we name her?
The photo above and the one below are 2 coats Lily and one coat of Lynn's franken, pre-sandwich :) If you want to see Lily alone, you can check out yeterday's post HERE.
The fuchsia of the franken is a perfect match to Lily, but it is very sheer.  I can't wait to try it over white or a softer pink.
The franken alone didn't create a thick enough sandwich for me so I added one more thin layer of Lily.  I love, love, love how this mani turned out and I got compliments left and right!
It just looked so juicy! A juicy, jelly sandwich? haha... I'm going to stop talking. The last picture says it all!
Yum.

Do you love jelly sandwiches as much as I do?
Do you have a favorite combo?

Do you franken? any tips?

Obviously Lynn's franken is one of a kind, but you can get Lily from Julep.com

Julep Lily Swatches from the June 2012 American Beauty Maven Box

I got Lily in my June "American Beauty" Maven Box.  Click Here to see everything I got in the box this month. Julep describes Lily as a "sizzling, fuchsia creme," but she is actually quite jelly!

All the photos below are with 2 thin coats (after a day of wear -sorry!) I tried to take photos in different lighting because Lily really freaked out my camera!  It is a true fuchsia and at times can look more pink like my camera wants to show you, but in most light it has more of a purple hue that my camera had trouble capturing.

I think this last photo captures the true color of Lily best.

The visible nail line didn't bother me with this polish, but I was so excited by the jelly nature of this polish that I didn't leave it alone for long.  I wore this mani for 2 days before I turned Lily into a jelly sandwich. But, I will show you that tomorrow :)

What do you think of Lily? Have you tried her?
How about visible nail line? yay or nay?
Sometimes vnl bugs me and sometimes it doesn't. It totally depends on the polish for me.

Revlon Temptress 168 Swatches

I was very excited to try my new Revlon polishes from my first Big Lots haul.  The first one I chose to try is Revlon Temptress.
In the bottle it looks like a light pink with a touch of peach and a silver shimmer.  You can see a hint of the shimmer in the bottle below my pointer finger, but it did not show up on my nails.
At first, I was disappointed that the shimmer was hiding, but I ended up really loved the finish.  It kind of had a plastic looking finish.
I credit the finish to the polish, but I did have to use Out the Door top coat.  Temptress actually bubbled like mad! I have never seen so many bubbles in my life! But, Out the Door saved the day and smoothed them all out like magic.
Because the bubblefest was easily fixed with a top coat, I forgive Temptress and I see myself using this polish more in the future.  I think it is a nice pink for my skin tone and I really do love a good pink now and then :)

Do you have Temptress? Was she plagued with bubbles, too?
What is your favorite pink polish?

OPI Vintage Minnie Mouse Nail Polish Collection Swatches

I'm catching up on my swatching with these skittles!
Here is the OPI Vintage Minnie Mouse Collection
The Color of Minnie, Nothin' Mousie 'Bout It, If You Moust You Moust, I'm All Ears
I used one coat of each polish for these photos.  If You Moust, You Moust is the only polish that I would say is a true one coater.  I would only wear Nothin' Mousie 'Bout It layered as a glitter topper.  The Color of Minnie and I'm All Ears have visible nail line with one coat, but would be perfect with two.
I really love them all but, if I had to pick a favorite it would be I'm All Ears.  I just love the shimmer in it!  You can click the photos to enlarge them and see the shimmer better.

The Color of Minnie, Nothin' Mousie 'Bout It, If You Moust You Moust, I'm All Ears
Here I added 1 coat of Nothin' Mousie 'Bout It over each nail.  I was really happy that I didn't have to go fishing for the heart glitter.  I naturally got one heart on each nail per coat.
I really like the shimmer in Nothin' Mousie 'Bout It.  I think it would look great layered over a purple or a darker color.  I will be sure to share when I try that :)

What do you think of the Vintage Minnie Mouse Collection?
Did you pick up any of these?

Crazy Revlon Haul from Big Lots!

I was out and about recently and I crossed paths with a Big Lots.  I have seen some great beauty finds from Big Lots on other blogs so I stopped to check it out... and went a little wild!  You can click any of the photos to enlarge them.
Revlon Scented Polishes Left to Right: Pretty in Papaya, Coconut Crush, Mint Fizz, Colada Fizz, Cotton Candy, Sublime Strawberry
Revlon Top Speed Polishes Left to Right: Pink Lingerie, Grape x2, Cloud, Jaded, Emerald
Revlon Polishes Left to Right: All Fired Up, Silver Dollar, Temptress, Plum Night, No Shrinking Violet, Lilac Pastelle

and Carbonite!!! What?! I have had this on my wish list and never thought I would randomly stumble upon it at a Big Lots! So super excited!
E.L.F. Coral Dream, Flirty Fuchsia, Party Peach, Smokin Hot
These were the only 2 designs but there were a lot of these 2 available.

These Simple Pleasures Soaps were only $1 so I picked up 2 to try.

Obviously, I was really pleased with what I found in the beauty section of my Big Lots.  I was too late for the Philosophy cosmetics though.  There were only a few items left, all of which had clearly been opened.  It was probably for the best, at least for my wallet!

Have you come across any great finds at Big Lots?

Zoya Nail Polish Cassi swatches

Here is 3 coats of Zoya Cassi.
I didn't have time to take photos before my sister's wedding so these photos were taken on day 3 for this mani.  I just added a top coat before the photos.  Cassi has a beautiful shimmer that looks much shinier with a top coat.
You can click the image to enlarge and really see the sparkle!  I loved this polish so much that I didn't even mind being without an accent nail or glitter!  I was trying to keep it sweet and simple for my sister's wedding :)
Below are all of the bridesmaids' dresses. All shades of peach, pink and nudes.
And, these were the flowers in our bouquets.
The wedding was beautiful and so much fun!

Have you tried any Zoya polishes?

What is inside my Target Beauty Bag?

I got my Target Beauty Bag yesterday! This is my first one and I wasn't sure what to expect from something I got for free from Target's facebook page.

The bag is quite nice.  It is a canvas material and I like the color and design.  It is much nicer than the bags that I have paid for from certain monthly sample subscriptions.  I'm looking at you Glam Bag! (stay tuned to see the *bag* I got this month)

Here is everything included

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 70 (1 fl oz)
Tresemme Split Remedy Shampoo & Conditioner (1 fl oz each)
Aveeno Daily Detoxifying Scrub (1 oz)

Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter Peach Parfait (sample card)

Garnier Fructis Color Shield Shampoo & Conditioner (.34 fl oz each)

There is also a Coupon Book with $1-$2 off coupons (and one $3 off revlon coupon) for the brands included plus a few others.  I love a good coupon book!

Did you get the Target Beauty Bag?
Did you get the same items?

Aside from the Revlon Lip Butters, all of these products are completely new to me so keep an eye out for reviews in my Sunday Samples posts!

Review: My First June Sample Society Box from BeautyBar.com and Allure Magazine!

This turned out to be a long review, so grab a drink and a snack :)

I received my first Sample Society Box from BeautyBar.com on June 4th! It shipped on the first of the month so it already won points for quick shipping :)
The Sample Society is a monthly beauty subscription box and costs $15 a month, including shipping.  Subscription also includes a years subscription to Allure magazine.
So, What's inside?
I really like the booklet! Each page has beauty tips based on the included products.  It goes further than simply giving directions for product use with mini articles like "how to wear fragrance politely." It is kind of like a mini magazine.
Here are my goodies!

Alterna Bamboo Style Boho Waves Tousled Texture Mist -0.85 fl.oz. - Sadly, I can't review this one because it won't spray! I must have gotten a defective bottle. Once I finish off one of my other products in a spray bottle I can decant this into that so I can still use it, its just annoying. - Full Size 4.2 fl.oz. $22 (value $4.45)

Caudalie Premier Cru Eye Cream - 0.03 fl.oz. - Most eye creams I have tried are thick and tend to sit on top of my skin.  I kind of like that and usually use them exclusively at night when my skin can absorb it while I sleep.  This eye cream is very different. My skin immediately drinks it up and I found myself using it morning and night.  If you are looking for a quickly absorbed eye cream that you can easily use under your makeup, then this is for you! - Full Size .51oz. $95 (value $5.59)

Oscar de la Renta Live in Love Eau de Parfum Spray - 0.1 fl.oz. - First of all, I love that this is in a little glass bottle modeled after the full size version.  As much as I enjoy trying new fragrances, I am always disappointed when I get little sample vials in any of my monthly beauty boxes.  I mean, you get those for free at sephora and fragrance counters. I really liked that this was a true "deluxe sample."  Beauty Bar describes this as a "green floral bouquet" and I would agree with that, but I also get a soft, sweet, powdery scent as it dries down.  It is very pretty.  It is a mature scent, but it is still an interesting scent.  I will certainly enjoy the sample size, but I'm not sure if I will spring for the full size. I have used it 3 times now and each time I do, I like it more and more so I just might! - Full Size 1 fl.oz. $58 (value $5.80)

Jane Iredale Just Kissed Lip Plumper in Tokyo - Mini Size - Wow! I did not expect to love this as much as I do!  I am rarely wowed by a lip product and this one did it for me.   I think it even $25 wowed me because I am seriously considering getting the full size and I have never in my life spent anywhere near $25 for a lipstick.  My priciest lipstick is probably MAC. Tokyo is slightly glossy and I love how sheer and natural the color looks on my lips.  It also wears really well.  It lasts a long time and wears off evenly so if you forget to reapply throughout the day you are not looking a mess :)  I usually apply color to my lips in the morning and then just use a lip balm after it wears off.  Alright I just talked myself into it... totally getting the full size. - Full Size $25 (the sizes of each are not disclosed but I would guess the value to be about $4-5)

Murad Clarifying Cleanser - 2 fl.oz. - This cleanser is unlike any I have tried.  It is a gel cleanser and while you are lathering it makes your face feel cold and tingly... and I'm not sure if it is in a good way.  It really is an odd sensation and I really can't decide if I like it or not!  I have to warn you not to get this anywhere near your eyes! When I was rinsing it off, I got some in my eyes and it really stung. After rinsing, my skin felt really clean but it was bordering on a tight, dry feeling.  So I would say this is not for all of the dry skin types out there. For an item in a sample box, I did appreciate this larger size, but I was confused as to why an Acne Cleanser would included in a box for everyone as Sample Society does not customize the boxes at this time. Everyone gets the same products. - Full Size 6.75 fl.oz. $26 (value $7.69)

The total value of the box was $27.53, so the value of the samples was certainly there for the $15 cost of the box.  I was disappointed that the spray bottle was broken on my Texture Mist, but overall I was pleased with my first Sample Society Box.  I love the lip plumper and aside from the cleanser that I am still on the fence about, I really liked everything else included.

I also really like how their referral program works. When you place your first order with BeautyBar.com and use my referral code BEAU5128 BeautyBar.com will make a donation to charity.  I chose to have the donations from my referral code go to the Make a Wish Foundation.  I also added a banner in my side bar with the referral code.  I do not get anything from you using the code and it is not a discount code for you either.  Beautybar.com will make the donation directly to the charity.

Beauty Bar's referral system goes to charity and they do not have a system where you can review products for points like Birchbox, but they do include a coupon code for $15 off of a $50 purchase every month when you purchase a product from any of the brands that were featured in that month's box.  It does not have to be one of the exact products you received. For example, this month any product from Murad, Claudalie, Jane Iredale, Alterna or Oscar de la Renta would qualify.  This month I am going to make good use of my discount code :)

What do you think? Have you tried Sample Society? Are you planning to?

Is anyone still reading? lol
Sorry that this one is so long!  Since this is my first Sample Society Box, I wanted to give a really detailed review.
