Review: My First June Sample Society Box from BeautyBar.com and Allure Magazine!

This turned out to be a long review, so grab a drink and a snack :)

I received my first Sample Society Box from BeautyBar.com on June 4th! It shipped on the first of the month so it already won points for quick shipping :)
The Sample Society is a monthly beauty subscription box and costs $15 a month, including shipping.  Subscription also includes a years subscription to Allure magazine.
So, What's inside?
I really like the booklet! Each page has beauty tips based on the included products.  It goes further than simply giving directions for product use with mini articles like "how to wear fragrance politely." It is kind of like a mini magazine.
Here are my goodies!

Alterna Bamboo Style Boho Waves Tousled Texture Mist -0.85 fl.oz. - Sadly, I can't review this one because it won't spray! I must have gotten a defective bottle. Once I finish off one of my other products in a spray bottle I can decant this into that so I can still use it, its just annoying. - Full Size 4.2 fl.oz. $22 (value $4.45)

Caudalie Premier Cru Eye Cream - 0.03 fl.oz. - Most eye creams I have tried are thick and tend to sit on top of my skin.  I kind of like that and usually use them exclusively at night when my skin can absorb it while I sleep.  This eye cream is very different. My skin immediately drinks it up and I found myself using it morning and night.  If you are looking for a quickly absorbed eye cream that you can easily use under your makeup, then this is for you! - Full Size .51oz. $95 (value $5.59)

Oscar de la Renta Live in Love Eau de Parfum Spray - 0.1 fl.oz. - First of all, I love that this is in a little glass bottle modeled after the full size version.  As much as I enjoy trying new fragrances, I am always disappointed when I get little sample vials in any of my monthly beauty boxes.  I mean, you get those for free at sephora and fragrance counters. I really liked that this was a true "deluxe sample."  Beauty Bar describes this as a "green floral bouquet" and I would agree with that, but I also get a soft, sweet, powdery scent as it dries down.  It is very pretty.  It is a mature scent, but it is still an interesting scent.  I will certainly enjoy the sample size, but I'm not sure if I will spring for the full size. I have used it 3 times now and each time I do, I like it more and more so I just might! - Full Size 1 fl.oz. $58 (value $5.80)

Jane Iredale Just Kissed Lip Plumper in Tokyo - Mini Size - Wow! I did not expect to love this as much as I do!  I am rarely wowed by a lip product and this one did it for me.   I think it even $25 wowed me because I am seriously considering getting the full size and I have never in my life spent anywhere near $25 for a lipstick.  My priciest lipstick is probably MAC. Tokyo is slightly glossy and I love how sheer and natural the color looks on my lips.  It also wears really well.  It lasts a long time and wears off evenly so if you forget to reapply throughout the day you are not looking a mess :)  I usually apply color to my lips in the morning and then just use a lip balm after it wears off.  Alright I just talked myself into it... totally getting the full size. - Full Size $25 (the sizes of each are not disclosed but I would guess the value to be about $4-5)

Murad Clarifying Cleanser - 2 fl.oz. - This cleanser is unlike any I have tried.  It is a gel cleanser and while you are lathering it makes your face feel cold and tingly... and I'm not sure if it is in a good way.  It really is an odd sensation and I really can't decide if I like it or not!  I have to warn you not to get this anywhere near your eyes! When I was rinsing it off, I got some in my eyes and it really stung. After rinsing, my skin felt really clean but it was bordering on a tight, dry feeling.  So I would say this is not for all of the dry skin types out there. For an item in a sample box, I did appreciate this larger size, but I was confused as to why an Acne Cleanser would included in a box for everyone as Sample Society does not customize the boxes at this time. Everyone gets the same products. - Full Size 6.75 fl.oz. $26 (value $7.69)

The total value of the box was $27.53, so the value of the samples was certainly there for the $15 cost of the box.  I was disappointed that the spray bottle was broken on my Texture Mist, but overall I was pleased with my first Sample Society Box.  I love the lip plumper and aside from the cleanser that I am still on the fence about, I really liked everything else included.

I also really like how their referral program works. When you place your first order with BeautyBar.com and use my referral code BEAU5128 BeautyBar.com will make a donation to charity.  I chose to have the donations from my referral code go to the Make a Wish Foundation.  I also added a banner in my side bar with the referral code.  I do not get anything from you using the code and it is not a discount code for you either.  Beautybar.com will make the donation directly to the charity.

Beauty Bar's referral system goes to charity and they do not have a system where you can review products for points like Birchbox, but they do include a coupon code for $15 off of a $50 purchase every month when you purchase a product from any of the brands that were featured in that month's box.  It does not have to be one of the exact products you received. For example, this month any product from Murad, Claudalie, Jane Iredale, Alterna or Oscar de la Renta would qualify.  This month I am going to make good use of my discount code :)

What do you think? Have you tried Sample Society? Are you planning to?

Is anyone still reading? lol
Sorry that this one is so long!  Since this is my first Sample Society Box, I wanted to give a really detailed review.
